The Bears Communication Company could best be described as an independent computer consultancy firm, but it had knowledge in many other helpful and necessary areas as well. The company provided services such as helping individuals or businesses to understand hardware and software requirements, helping to troubleshoot hardware and software once it had been installed or installing the hardware and software, and also trainined individuals how to use and update various programs.
Bears Communication had been in business for many years and, as such, possessed a great deal of knowledge and, even more importantly, expertise. In an effort to share this knowledge with others, the company frequently printed articles, guides, and other features for a variety of computer magazines and other publications.
The company was also experienced and knowledgeable when it came to many different aspects of networking. Areas of expertise included Novell Netware 2.x and 3.x, DOS, Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and even PC and Apple Macintosh integration. Most modern companies are severely behind in their knowledge of PC and Apple Macintosh integration, but not Bears Communication. It also fully understood 10base2, 1-basteT, and even the 100baseTX networking standard. Bear Communications, however, did not work with Token Ring installations.
Other areas of proficiency included 802.3, 802.2, Ethernet II, Ethernet Snap, IPX, Netbeui, AppleTalk, all TCP/IP networks, Linux Operating System, Telnet, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, Microsoft Exchange Servers 5.5, Microsoft Exchange Servers 2000, and others.
Bear Communications was also fully involved with the publishing world as well. Past materials had been published in cold metal and offset lithography. As such, the company could offer publishing advice, especially when choosing a type of publishing, trying to find the right DTP hardware or software if applicable, scanning images, hardware and software output, and also proofing and editing services and equipment.
